Hunting is one of the most popular sports of Sweden. But does it signify that Sweden has no concern for the wildlife conservation? No, there have been strict measures taken by the hunter association in Sweden to ensure hunting in selected areas. The hunting in selected areas ensures that the ecological balance is well maintained. The hunters in Sweden mostly register themselves with the Swedish Association for hunting and Wildlife Management. The Association takes care of the security of the hunters and interests of hunting.
The Swedish Government have leased lands for hunting. To play the sport of hunting beyond these lands is a punishable offense. Almost half of the Swedish land is in the hands of the state and large companies. In most of the part of this land, the rights of hunting are leased out to the hunting associations. If the individual applies for the hunting permission, he may be leased the land for hunting as well.
There are certain areas where the available land is limited. In those areas, co-operation is mandatory to ensure legal hunting. The system of co-operation has been working effectively to ensure the conservation of rare species like moose. The owners of hunting rights therefore subject themselves to the co-operation to make larger hunting areas.
To own the hunting permits in Sweden, the hunter needs to pay an annual hunting conservation fee. The fee is paid to the Post Offices. The foreigners can hunt too on the Swedish lands but they have to own the hunting permits. The foreign hunters avail the 'exchange hunting' facility to play the hunting sport in Sweden. This scheme enables the foreign hunter to hunt in the Swedish land whereas he/she too can invite the Swedish hunter to hunt in his/her own country.
