Most of today's black South Africans belong to the Bantu language group, which migrated south from central Africa settling in the Transvaal region sometime before 1000 A.D. The principal languages of

In terms of religion, about two-thirds of
South African people are Christian, mainly Protestant. They belong to a variety of churches, including many that combine Christian and traditional African beliefs. Other significant religions are Islam, Hinduism and Judaism.
