Micronesia People

Micronesia people are characterized by their adherence to diverse traditions and customs. But beneath this apparent heterogeneity, they are bonded by a shared history and national identity. The people of Micronesia are commonly known as Micronesians. Though most of them are native of the islands, some of them also trace their origin to their Polynesian ancestors. These people are mostly inhabitants of the state of Pohnpei. The Micronesian people exhibit their diversity in the languages that they speak. There are as many as eight local languages been used by the Micronesian population. English has been designated as the official language of the state. The Micronesians firmly believe and uphold the integrity of the clan and the institution of family.

Amongst all the Micronesia people, the people of the Pohnpei islands have witnessed the maximum amount of development. This is largely due to the fact that it is the seat of administration. The other states also display cultural characteristics typical of their own region. The state of Chuuk and its inhabitants lay great stress on protecting the unity of their clan while the Congregational Church dominates life of the people of Kosrae State. Yap State believes in a rigid caste system and is still an orthodox society.
