The Federated States of Micronesia comprises of four island states namely, Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap. Micronesia law is applicable for all the citizens of the four states. The most important Micronesia laws are as follows:
- The Micronesian laws say that new states may be added to the Federation of Micronesia. The newly formed state would enjoy the same power and privileges of the other four states.
- If any one of the parents is citizen of Micronesia then the child born would also enjoy the citizenship status and will be considered as a national of the state.
- The laws of Micronesia have no right to deny freedom of association, petition and expression.
- Free exercise of religion cannot be prohibited by the Micronesian law.
- Without the proper processing of laws, nobody in Micronesia can be deprived of liberty or life.
- Prohibition of capital punishment
- Slavery and involuntary service are prohibited. Only in cases of crime this is allowed.
