Museum of Ancient beekeeping, Lithuania



Lithuania consists of plenty of interesting and unique museums that speak about the rich cultural heritage of the land. One of the popular museums is the Lithuanian Museum of Ancient Beekeeping.
Located in the premises of the Aukstaitija National Park, the museum is a wonder house of beehives.

Lithuanian Museum of Ancient Beekeeping comprises a vast and singular collection of a variety of hives ranging from hives made of stumps to standing hives, lying hives, hives of different shapes and sizes etc. Lithuanian Museum of Ancient Beekeeping of Lithuania has a farmstead that sprawls over the hill at Tauragnele Rill. Established in 1984, the museum is surrounded by a number of wooden sculptures which portrays the history of bee keeping in the country.

The main building of Lithuanian Museum of Ancient Beekeeping displays the equipments and tools used in bee keeping. This building also houses beehive made of straw and other interesting things. The building next to it contains a granary. Visitors can gather information on a number of things related to bee keeping like different types of beehives, protection of bee-hollows from bears etc.



Lithuanian mythology also finds a place in the museum through the representation of the god and goddess of bees. The sculptures show the origin of bee in various mythologies.
