People of Iran belong to different ethnic groups. Among them, Persian is the largest ethnic group in Iran. They dwell in the central plateau and speak the dialect of Indo-Iranian. On the other hand, a huge number of Azeris stay in the northern part of Iran and Kurds stay in the northwestern part. They comprise around 8 % of the entire population of Iran.
The People of Iran consider family to be the most significant social unit, in which father remains at the head of the institution and controls the activities of the other family members. Another custom in the country is that Iranian women use veils and stoles to cover up their bodies and are not allowed to freely interact with the opposite sex. However, with the course of time, their social roles are improving. Since the year 1963, women are given the right to vote.
Most of the natives of Iran are Muslims by religion. Islam comprises two main sects. They are Sunnis and Shi’ites and in Iran, around 98% of people are Shi’ite Muslims. Since Farsi is the official language of the Middle Eastern country of Iran, most of the people here speak in this language. Apart from this, other languages spoken by the Iranians include Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish.
The people of Iran are quite efficient in the art of hand weaving. Next to oil, their hand-made carpets are considered to be the main objects for exportation. Some of the popular games of Iranians include:

- Horsemanship and so on.
Besides the above-mentioned sport activities, Zurkhaneh also deserves mention. It is basically a mixture of wrestling and gymnastics.
