The
Estonian People mainly inhabit the European country of Estonia and are also found in several other nations of the region. These people first inhabited the country about 10,000 years ago. There are doubts about the language these early settlers of Estonia spoke. However, it is quite clear that this language was among the few, which influenced the formation of the Estonian languages of the current times.
The “Aestii”, ancient Germanic people, who had come to the land near Finland, named it Estonia after themselves. There were also people who were called the “Eistr”. There has been a large number of immigration of
Estonian People from several countries of the world, including Russia, Sweden and others. There have also been large migrations of citizens from the country of Estonia. These have been the results of the Soviet invasions and the mass deportations that Stalin had ordered during his rule.
The percentage of ethnic population among the Estonian People is currently about 69%. The people of Estonia, who have migrated away from the country, live in several other places like Canada, Sweden, Brazil, the United States of Russia and others. The Estonian People have been able to maintain their characteristics irrespective of wherever they are.
