Evansville is a city in the U.S state of Indiana. Laid out in 1817, the city was named in honor of one of its founders, Robert Morgan Evans. It then became a commercial town and was incorporated in 1819. Evansville was chartered as a city in 1847. It is the third-largest city in the state of Indiana and is the county seat of Vanderburgh County.
