Roman power began to diminish by the end of the fifth century. The Vandals came to power. Tunisia was under the Vandal domination for nearly a century and again Rome re captured it. In the 7th century the Tunisia was conquered by the Arabs. Islam came to this region at this very period.
There were successive rulers who ruled the region. Aghlabites, Fatimids and Zeirids were some of the ruling dynasties. al-Kaiouan was made the capital .Tunisia was ruled by the Sicilian Normans and Spanish for some time.
