Hungary Education

Hungary Education throws light into the entire educational system of the country. It is assumed that majority of the adult population is literate. According to the adult literacy report of 2000, around 0.6% was said to be the rate of adult literacy. For the benefits of the country people, government has made the 8 years of primary and 4 years of secondary education totally free. Besides that, the state also provides financial assistance to the higher education institutions.

In the year 1948, education was nationalized in Hungary. However, before this nationalization, most of the schools and other educational institutes were run by religious organizations. Especially the Roman Catholic Church played a great role during this time period, but now-a-days the Ministry of Education controls the system of Hungary Education and the local councils supervise it. In this context, central government deserves mention since the monetary aid also comes from here. According to the education report of 1999, the educational expenditure for public was approximated at 4.6% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product).

Hungary has around 77 higher education institutes that include 10 universities, nine noted technical schools and colleges providing vocational and agricultural training. Especially, after World War II, adult education amplified through the workers' schools and some correspondence courses.
