Greenland is self governed province under the rule of the Kingdom of Denmark. Denmark controls the overseas affairs of Greenland in consultation with Home Rule Government of the island. Greenland is located in the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans, between North America and Europe. Greenland's total area measures 2,166,086 square kilometers (836,109 square miles), making it the largest island in the world. The island has 44,087 kilometers of coastline, but the vast majority of the land in Greenland is covered in ice. Almost all of the population of Greenland lives along the coastal regions in which there is no ice.
