Also known as the "King's flag," the national flag is composed of three equal vertical bars of black, red, and green. In the center is the white coat of arms of Afghanistan. It was adopted as the national flag on January 4, 2004. The center emblem is the classical emblem of Afghanistan with a mosque with its mihrab facing Mecca. It is circled by two sheaves of wheat.
On the upper portion of the emblem is written a sacred line, "There is no God but Allah and Mohammad is His prophet, and Allah is great".

At the bottom of this insignia, it's written 'Afghanistan' and the solar year 1298.

The design of the flag of Afghanistan has undergone many changes in the twentieth century than any other country in the world.
