About Raleigh City

Blessed with an abundance of oak trees and also known as the City of Oaks, Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina. It is also the seat of Wake County. The city is spread over an area of 142.8 square miles. As of July 1, 2015, some 451,066 people resided in the city.

 

Best Time to Visit

One should plan a visit to Raleigh in fall or spring. During these seasons the temperatures are quite pleasant. You can also visit Raleigh during winters or summers but do keep in mind that the city gets very cold in winter and stifling humidity would trouble you during summertime. The best time to visit the city would be from March to May or from September to November.

 

How to Reach Raleigh

Getting to Raleigh is quite easy as it is well connected by air, rail and road. Raleigh-Durham International Airport, which offers services to around 35 domestic as well as international services, is situated northeast of downtown Raleigh.

Raleigh's train station connects the city to other cities and is a prominent stop of Amtrak. The Silver Star, Piedmont, and Carolinian provide service between Raleigh and Charlotte, New York City and Miami. Bus service is provided by Greyhound, Megabus and Triangle Transit.

 

Tourist Attractions in Raleigh

Raleigh is brimming with tourist attractions. At Historic Oakwood you would find many homes dating back to the 19th century. There are many African American Heritage Sites in the city and they are worth a visit. Pullen Park was opened in 1887 and is the first public park in the state. Mordecai Historic Park, Marbles Kids Museum, North Carolina Museum of Art, North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences,North Carolina State Capitol are some other places that one should explore.

 

Higher Education Institutes in Raleigh

Some higher public institutes in Raleigh are North Carolina State University and Wake Technical Community College while private ones are Meredith College (Baptist), Montreat College's School of Professional and Adult Studies (Presbyterian), William Peace University (Presbyterian) and Shaw University (Baptist), to name a few.
