Shinyanga is encircled by Mara, Mwanza and Kagera regions on the northern frontiers, while it is encapsulated by Singida region on its southeastern parts. Manyara and Arusha regions lie at the eastern borders of Shinyanga at Tanzania, while the city is bordered by the Tabora region on the southern areas and Kigoma regions over the western margins.
The eight main districts of Shinyanga comprise of Bukombe, Bariadi, Kishapu, Meatu, Kahama, Maswa, Shinyanga Urban and Shinyanga Rural. The city is inhabited mainly by the tribal people. The predominant tribes of the area include Sukuma, Sumbwa and Nyamwezi. Traditionally, people of Shinyanga earn their living by farming. Cotton, maize and rice are the chief agricultural products of Shinyanga of Tanzania.
