Bagamoyo in Tanzania is one of the most famous historical cities in the country. In the ancient times, Bagamoyo served as the capital of German East Africa and was the primary center for slave trade in Africa. Since there are many historical and heritage sites in Bagamoyo, the Department of Antiquities in Tanzania are striving to maintain the ruins of Bagamoyo as places of tourist attraction. The Bagamoyo College of Arts is an international hub for artists from all over the world. Hukwe Zawose, the traditional musician is also from the city of Bagamoyo.
