The city is located in the Atlantique Department of Benin and is 28.5 miles from Cotonou, Benin.

Allada, Benin is also famous for being the cradle of the Voodoo religion. Religion came into being in the thirteenth century. It was initiated in the thirteenth century by Adjahounto, founder of Allada and the ancestor of the kings of Allada. Allada in Benin is also regarded as the pioneer in establishing diplomatic relations with western countries.
