Since mid-1940s Vietnam health has witnessed a substantial change and progress. In 1945 life expectancy of the people of Vietnam was 34 years. By 1979 it had risen to 63 years, The statistics show the progressive development made by Vietnam in the health sector. Vietnam health was one of the primary concerns of the authorities of the country during the 1980s.

Health in Vietnam includes a wide range of issues like health care system, nutrition, mental health, old age illnesses, public health, medical technology etc. The public health of Vietnam improved drastically with respect to preventive and curative medicine. During the 1980s medical personnel in Vietnam included a total of 240,000 doctors, nurses and other paramedics.

Common diseases that affect health care in Vietnam include trachoma, diphtheria, whooping cough, measles, chicken pox, typhoid fever, tuberculosis, malaria etc. Today, Vietnamese population have access to health services in Vietnam.
