As per the Uruguay health report, the life expectancy rate is high in Uruguay. On the other hand, the rate of infant mortality, as per 2007 report, is 12.02 deaths per 1000 live births. The government of Uruguay has put a greater emphasis on the sociological approach to public health problems.
The joint efforts of the US Institute of Inter-American Affairs and the Uruguayan Ministry of Public Health led to the creation of Inter-American Cooperative Public Health Service. This in turn opened a total of 4 health centers and clinics in Uruguay. It has also been observed by the department of Uruguay health that the ratio of the doctors and beds to the people of Uruguay is at a very good position.

As per the 2001 data report, the rate of adult population with AIDS was 0.3%. The number of deaths due to this disease was less than 500 as per the report of 2003. It should also be noted that majority of the people of Uruguay die due to cancer, digestive disorders and heart diseases.
