Uganda Agriculture is the chief support of Uganda Economy. The agriculture of Uganda faced hard times in the previous years due to the lack of infrastructure, the lack of use of scientific methods, the deficiency of markets and such others. Things have improved for the better in recent times in the agriculture sector of Uganda Economy.
The climate and soil of Uganda is favorable for the development of Uganda agriculture. The adequate rainfall and moderate temperatures of the country make agriculture in Uganda a major occupation among the people of Uganda. The southern regions of the country are more suitable for Uganda agriculture throughout the year. The northern region experiences a dry season during the months of December and January. The total arable land in Uganda is 28.3% of the total land of the country.
The increase in the production of the food crops of Uganda agriculture has improved from previous years. The chief food crops of Uganda are corn, millets, beans, cassava or tapioca, plantains, peanuts, fruits and vegetables. The food crops are sold both in the domestic markets and the excess is used for export. The export of Uganda is also hugely dependent on the agriculture of Uganda. The cash crops of Uganda which are exported to other countries are coffee, tea, cotton and tobacco.
Livestock include cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, turkey, chickens, ducks, etc. The meat produced from is a basic food item in Uganda. Forestry is also a source of income. Paper and paper products are one of the export items of Uganda. Fishing is also developing. The number of rivers and lakes of Uganda have proved to be a rich source of fishes.
