Trinidad and Tobago Agriculture is a growing sector and due to the diversification of Trinidad and Tobago's economy agriculture is gaining ground very gradually. Trinidad and Tobago's economy is prospering not only because of trade transactions but also due to the increment in the agricultural productivity every year. The agricultural land in Trinidad and Tobago amounts to almost 130,000 hectares. Due to the occurrence of many brooks and streams it is easy to irrigate the arable land areas.
GROWTH OF THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR IN TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
The agricultural lands of Trinidad and Tobago are being fertilized with the latest technical machines in order to save time and effort. Due to the large availability of lands these areas are being gradually transformed into arable land fit for agriculture and farming. The government is trying to promote this sector and it is doing a lot to benefit the agricultural producers or farmers. The crops that are usually harvested are cocoa, sugarcane and the industry of sugarcane earns a great profit by exporting sugar to other American and European countries. The other crops which are also harvested in the island of Trinidad and Tobago are all kinds of citrus fruits, coconuts and coffee. Rice, sweet potatoes and yams are some of the food crops grown extensively by the farmers and due to their increasing demand in the food market, their production has increased tremendously in the island.
