Migration of the people of
Thailand from Southern China to the mainland Southeast Asia around 10th century AD actually led to the beginning of the
history of Thailand or
Thailand history. The region was ruled by few kingdoms like Mon, Khmer and Malay before 10th century AD. The
Thailand people created their own states of
Sukhothai and
Ayutthaya kingdom. These states were frequently engaged in fighting and received threats from Burma, Vietnam and the Khmers.
Thailand was in fact the only southeastern country to have survived the threats of the European colonial aggression. In 1932 the monarchist rule ended and after that there was 60 years of acute military control. Finally
Thailand is now enjoying the atmosphere of democracy.
Military dictatorship covered most of the
Thailand history from 1932 to 1973. Due to some critical changes and incidents the government of
Thailand was changed from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. The contemporary king initially accepted the change but later on deviated citing that the common people living there would be deprived if left to any unknown individual or group.
The recent administrative scenario of
Thailand took place after many bloody massacres. The event that took place in October 1973 actually contributed a lot in the betterment of the
history of Thailand. During that time a revolutionary movement led by the middle-class students shook the basic foundation of the king's rule and ultimately led the foundation of democracy where the people can live in the atmosphere of freedom. Thus the
Thailand history gives us a brief account about the gradual development of Thailand from its birth till date.
