Russia history is very vast and enriched. The history of the country can be traced back to the ancient days. In ancient Russia, the Varangians came and established their settlement. The group was led by Rurik. In the ancient days, Russia was a group of cities that later developed to be an empire.
Russian Federation history faced many internal strife after its formation. Novgorod Republic used to be an important territory of Russia. It was an important trading center. Mongol invasion in Russian Federation was a common problem. The invasions by this nomadic tribe started as early as 1223. These invasions affected the society and culture of Russia to a great extent.
Russia is known as the rule of its Tsars. Some of the noted Tsars of Russia are Peter I, Aleksander I and Catherine II. Tsar Alexander II took the initiative to end serfdom in Russia in 1861. In Russia history, October Revolution of 1917 is an important event. Power went to Soviet Council of People's Commissars.
Another important historical event is the Russian Civil War. The White Army and Red Army came in the forefront. The White Army was also helped by foreign powers as they were against the Bolshevik Government. Later it got involved in a war in Afghanistan. Dissolution of the Soviet Union followed the coup of August 1991.
