Qatar Information

Qatar Information includes information on the history and State of Qatar. Qatar is situated on the Persian Gulf over the borders of United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Doha is the capital city of Qatar. The economy of Qatar bases itself on the revenue generated by the oil and natural gas companies. Among this 70% revenue comes from the oil export business. The chemical industries, steel plants, cement factories and fertilizer mills depend on the revenue gathered by the export business.

The people of Qatar are mainly Arabs or Indians or Pakistanis or Iranians. Strangely, a very minor section of the entire population (only 20%) is Qataris which include the Arabs of the Wahhabi group in Islam. Although the official language of Qatar is Arabic, but a major section of the Arabian people are more affluent in English. Qatar is still among the few Monarchical states in the world.

The Britishers ruled the land of Arabia for more than a century. After being a British protectorate for almost sixty years, it gained its independence in 1971. Qatar's present emir is Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani who is ruling the land for over a decade. The most important contribution of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani is the liberty on press censorship. Qatar is allowing the use of Al Udeid air base by the US.

The main tourist attractions in Qatar are in its capital city Doha. These include the Corniche Bay, a magnificent beach stretching 7kms; the famous Al Bida Park; the Ethnographic Museum, better known as the Wind Tower House; the Qatar National Museum; the Doha Fort and the exotic Palm Tree Island. Doha has played the official host for the Asian Games in 2006.
