Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) is a unicameral body. The Legislative Council of Palestine is also sometimes known as Palestinian Parliament. It consists of 132 members in total. These members are elected from amongst the 16 electoral districts in the West Bank and Gaza strip.
The number of members in the
Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) was earlier 88. But by a law passed in the month of June in 2005, it was raised to the present number of 132. Half of them are elected by the method of proportional representation and the rest half is elected by traditional constituencies.
The legislature of the Palestinian Authority had its new Parliamentary elections on 25th January, 2006. Hamas emerged as the new Prime Minister in this election. Earlier the office of the Prime Minister was served by Ahmed Qurei from the period of October 7, 2003 to January 26, 2006. He was an ex-speaker of the Legislative Council in Palestine.
