The main health problems in Nauru were the affliction of diseases and illnesses such as tuberculosis, leprosy, vitamin deficiencies and diabetes and these were the results of switching to the habit of westernized diet. To decrease the increasing number of diabetic patients a national foot care education program was launched in the year 1992. Nauru health services were further modernized and with the help of these treatments various diseases were brought under control.
