Health in Malawi

The Ministry of Health with its headquarters at Lilongwe is the body responsible for health in Malawi. The main goal of this department in Malawi is to ensure improvement in the health standards of the people through better quality of living and well equipped medical facilities. This would reduce the incidence of illness and death.

In recent years however, with AIDS having become an epidemic, the health situation in Malawi has faced major problems. One out of ten people in Malawi has tested positive for AIDS. Apart from this, the Malawian population has been affected in a major way by Malaria, tuberculosis and malnutrition.

In order to check the occurrence of AIDS and other diseases in Malawi, a number of steps have been taken by the government. These include measures to provide immunization to a large section of the people.
Besides, there exists in Malawi high maternal mortality rate in the absence of proper medical facilities.
