Macedonia history dates back to a very old period and according to archaeological sources the Macedonian kingdom was founded in between 7000 and 3500 BC. Macedonia history is very interesting as it has many glorious events and surprising facts, one of them being that the ancient Macedonians were completely a different race.
The history of ancient Macedonians begins with Hellenic immigrants who had come from Argos and had founded the city of ancient Macedonia. Ancient Macedonia was ruled by the Argive tribes who had acquired many areas of the ancient city. The Macedonians came under Persian dominance during B.C. 492 and the repulsiveness of the Persians allowed Macedonia to become free. Macedonia then faced serious threat from Athens and the Thracian kingdom, however, under the able leadership of Perdiccas, Macedonia overcame both these powers.
There came the rule of Archelaus, who laid the foundation of Macedonia as an invincible military power. The murder of Archelaus started a period of disturbance which was solved after Philips ascended the throne in BC 359. Philips then repressed all the rival powers and started building up the Macedonian empire.
Thereafter Alexander the Great, the greatest Macedonian Prince of all times came to the throne. He conquered Babylon, Persia, Susa, Persepolis, Asia Minor and many other remarkable kingdoms.
Macedonia was thereafter ruled by the Roman powers in 395 AD. It remained a Byzantine territory unless Ottoman Turks captured it in 1389. Macedonia was thereafter divided between Bulgaria, Serbia and Greece after the First Balkan War. After much struggle the republic of Macedonia was formed on September 8, 1991.
