The country of Macedonia boasts of a rich reserve of natural resources. The major Macedonia natural resources include a comparatively lower grade of iron-ore, manganese, copper, lead, zinc, gold, silver, asbestos, timber, asbestos, chromite and nickel. Most of the Macedonia natural resources are found in the mountainous regions of the country.
Most of the iron-ore reserves of the country are found in Tajmiste near Kicevo, Damjan near Radovis and Zvan near Demir Hisar. Among the ferrous metals found in the Macedonian country, the most significant ones are the lead and zinc mines in the Kratovo- Zletovo region and copper which has been discovered at Radovis. The zone which stretches south-east from Veles to Macedonia along the Greek border, many ferro-nickel ore resources have been found. Some other rare natural resources which have been discovered at Macedonia include quick silver, gold, molybdenum and wolfram.
Macedonia also has a vast collection of non-ferrous metals. Marble and other decorative stones have been dug out in areas close to Gostivar, Tetovo and Prilep. Other rare mineral discoveries include quartzite and magnesite. Bentolythic clays of high quality also have been dug out in many places of Macedonia and these are largely used by the ceramic industry.
