It started with the great Greenlandic drawer and painter Aaron, who depicted the ancient Greenlandic myths and legends in water colors in the middle of 19th century. Several artists were influenced by him.
From 1940s the Visual Art gave rise to two primary forms of expression. Providing information and depicting landscape. Foreign artists are also inspired from the natural world of Greenland. Thus the Museum holds the Danish artist Emanual.
The young artists have given a new dimension to the Greenland Art by creating such Art that provokes question and alters attitude. Newer forms of expression like photography, installations are getting merged with traditional techniques. Greenland Art has great value also outside the country.
