Ever since the invasion of Islam in the 7th century AD, Islam has been the dominant religion in Egypt and has been accepted as the state religion. So all major Islamic celebrations are declared holidays. Though the calendars of each year mention particular dates as Islamic holidays, they might differ in practice. This difference occurs because the moon appears in different times. This is the most important factor in terms of Islamic religious festivals. The Egyptian Islamic holidays include the Islamic New Year day, the Prophet's birthday, Sham El Nessim, Ramdan and Bairam Feast.
The Egypt national holidays include the Sinai Day on April 25th, the Revolution day on July 23rd, the labor day on may 1st, the armed forces day, Evacuation day on June 18th, Wafaa Elnil on August 15th, the Suez Day on October 24th, the Egyptian naval day on October 25th and December 23rd as the Victory day.
It is mandatory for all government and private organizations to remain closed on the Egypt public holidays, which are considered as national days.
