Belize Health

Belize health parameters are of prime importance to Belize travelers. Belize is characterized by tropical diseases and the remedial measures undertaken by the Belize government to tackle the same. All health related issues are addressed by Belize Ministry of Health.

Infant mortality rate as per 2007 estimates is 24.38 (i.e. 24.38 deaths per 1000 live births) The life expectancy at birth is 68.25 years as per 2007 data The total fertility rate is 3.52 children born per woman, according to 2007 estimates 2.4% of the adult population is infected with HIV/AIDS as per 2003 estimates

Malaria is the commonest of all communicable diseases in Belize. The districts of Cayo, Toledo and Stan Creek are the worst affected. Cholera and respiratory ailments like asthma, influenza and pneumonia are the other prevalent infectious diseases. HIV AIDS in Belize are prevalent in Stan Creek and Belize districts.

Diabetes, cardiovascular ailments, and malignant neoplasm are among the notable non-communicable diseases common in Belize.

To tackle health problems, the National Health Plan was launched in 1996-2000 by the Ministry of Health. This Health Plan works as a guideline to the Ministry of Health and other health service organizations to ensure access of all residents to quality health services.

To provide decent health services Belize hospitals have come up in every district of the country. There are eight district hospitals in Belize providing primary, secondary and in cases tertiary care to their patients. Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is a premier national hospital in Belize City.

Belize health is of primary concern to the government. Belize government is taking all measures to provide updated treatment facilities, and precautionary health methods to keep diseases at the minimum level.
