Mississippi is located in the southern part of the United States. It is the 32nd most extensive state of the country. It is also the 32nd most populous state of the United States. Jackson is both the capital as well as the largest city in the state. The city, which was incorporated in 1821, had a population of 169,148, as of 2016. Gulfport, which is home to the US Navy Atlantic Fleet Seabees, is the second largest city in the state comprising a population of approximately 72,076 inhabitants. Cities which have a population of more than 40,000 people are Southaven, Hattiesburg, Biloxi, and Meridian. Meanwhile, Satartia, which is a village in Yazoo County, is the least populated. As of 2016, Satartia had a population of just 53 residents.
