Lewiston is a city in the U.S state of Idaho. It was founded in 1861 and was named after the first European ancestry visitor Meriwether Lewis. In 1863, the city became the capital of Idaho Territory. After a decision to change the capital in 1864, it was shifted to Boise in 1865. Lewiston is the county seat and largest city in Nez Perce County. It is the second largest city in the Idaho Panhandle region and also the principal city of Lewiston.

History:

Lewiston was primarily an industrial center and is located in southwest Maine, at the falls of the Androscoggin River. Lewiston and Auburn are often thought of as a single entity and jointly referred to as Lewiston-Auburn. Lewiston was settled in the year 1770 and was officially incorporated in 1795. In May 2004, the City of Lewiston started an ambitious plan for urban renewal near its downtown area. According to this plan the entire city was to be renovated and old nineteenth-century blocks were to be demolished.

Places to Visit:

The Hells Canyon, the vast national forests, the Lewis-Clark Valley and Nez Perce Indian Reservation are the marvelous sights that can be seen only in Lewiston. A drive through the famous Spiral Highway on Lewiston Hill gives a wonderful view of the region. Jet boat excursions to Hells Canyon, overnight rafting and camping trips down the Snake River are a must while on the visit to the city. Tourists also visit Bates College Museum of Art and Marsden Hartley Cultural Center on their visit to the city.
