Sulina is a renowned town in Romania. It acts as a free port in the country. Situate at the mouth of the Sulina branch of the Danube, Sulina town is in the easternmost corner of Romania.
The name of the town is perhaps derived from a Slavic word that means 'Salt'. Once the city of Sulina was a shipyard and a prosperous port. There are Romanian, Greeks, Lipovans and Ukrainians in Sulina. Apart from Romanian, some people spoke Russian as their first language. Mix of old believers and orthodox people are there in the Sulina town.

The Sulina town is located in the Tulcea County. The area of the town is 14.16 square kilometer. Mayor in such towns play a vital role in legal and developmental matter. Aurel Dimitriu of Social Democratic Party has been acting as a mayor beginning from 2004. Tulcea County includes 4 towns, 1 municipality and 46 communes. The towns in Tulcea County are Isaccea, Macin, Babadag and Sulina.

Sulina is the only free port in Romania. Transshipment of grains into seagoing vessels is made through this port. The town of Sulina has almost no agriculture produced in its surroundings. European Commission of the Danube has a technical department having its headquarters at Sulina. The only English church in Romania is in Sulina.
