Origin of Venezuelan Literature
Literature, in its true form started to gain importance in Venezuela during the period of Spanish subjugation. Thus, the early literary creations of Venezuela were highly influenced by the culture and thought process of the Spaniards. This can be well understood by going through the pages of the books written by scholars during the 17th century such an Andres Bello. Archives and different genre of poetry also emerged during this phase.
Venezuelan Literature after Independence
The true spirit of Literature of Venezuela emerged only during the 18th century, with the independence of the country. Political literature and Romanticism were introduced in the country during this period. During this period, important experimentations were also made by the eminent writers. Most of the important development in Venezuela Literature occurred in between 1870 and 1888.
With the dawn of 1900, a number of literary pioneers gained international fame and paved a new path for Venezuela Literature.
