The Syria Schools are controlled by the The Ministry of Education in Syria. The higher education is however taken care of by the Ministry of Higher Education in Syria. These ministries take care of the education policies in the school and also set the standard of the curriculum activities in the schools of Syria. Education in primary schools in Syria are made compulsory for all the citizens in Syria by the government of Syria. Schooling in Syria takes six years of an individual.
The compulsory schooling in Syria is divided into two parts that have three categories in each of them. The first three categories fall under the primary education in Syria and the last three comprise the higher secondary education in Syria. The secondary schools in Syria take care of the pre- university education, after which the student go pursue education in the universities of Syria.
The Baath party in Syria made primary education compulsory in Syria as they looked at education as the only way to improve the economic condition of the country. The government of Syria came up with a Fourth Five-Year Development Plan in the year 1976 that had the target of enrolling all the boys and girls in Syria for primary education. The education plans in Syria Schools are continuously trying to include the rural areas under the education programs in Syria. Educating the mass is the main target of the schools in Syria. The schools in Syria mainly deal with the science streams as it is considered to be immensely important in the society of Syria.
