Slovakia National Anthem

Slovakia National Anthem is primarily based on the folk song adapted to the patriotic feelings in the revolutions of 1840s. It's a beautiful depiction of courage and is poetically narrated. The narration speaks about the lightning streaks over the Tatra Mountain and it urges the Slovak nation to wake up. The score for the” Lighting over the Tatras” was written in 1884 and it was during a trip by the students of Bratislavas Evangelical Grammar School to Levoco and it's in support of Ludovt Atr.

Officially the Republic of Slovakia came in formation on January 1, 1993 and during the period of World War II the Slovakia was a state under Nazi Germany. Though the Slovak history is just more than a decade old the Slovaks have remained as a unique entity for more than 1500 years. National Anthem of Slovakia became the favorite song of the Atrs young followers and it circulated in hand written copies initially and was found in various manuscript song collections.

The Slovakia National Anthem is based on popular melody and is written in standard Slovak and no sooner it became the popular song of the nation it was adapted by the Slovak volunteers in 1848. In December 1918, the first stanza of the Slovakian National Anthem became the part of the anthem of the Czechoslovak Republic and hence forth from January 1st, 1993 the first two stanzas were made the Slovakia National Anthem.

In 1993 the Czech-Slovakia split into two countries and the Czech Republic retained its part of the old Slovakia National Anthem unchanged. On the other hand Slovakia added the Second Stanza of the original song by the “Janko Matuska” to its half .Thus the Slovakia National Anthem came into existence and it has its own national significance.
