Vaira Vike Freiberga was born in Riga on 1st December, 1937. She received her early schooling in the refugee camps in Germany. A primary school in Daourat was the center of her primary education. After completing school education, Vaira Vike Freiberga went to a college in Casablanca.
Political Life of Vaira Vike Freiberga
Vaira Vike Freiberga returned to Latvia in the year 1998 and was made the Director of the Latvian Institute by the then Prime Minister of Latvia. This was mainly because of the reason that Vaira Vike Freiberga had already held significant positions in a number of important academic organizations earlier. Finally in the year 1999, Latvia got its new President in the form of Vaira Vike Freiberga. She was again elected as the President of Latvia in the year 2003.
Achievements of Vaira Vike Freiberga
Vaira Vike Freiberga played a significant roe as the president of Latvia. She exercised the powers vested on the President by the Constitution of Latvia for the betterment of the country. It was under her Presidential rule that Latvia became a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union. She was the member of the Council of Women World Leaders and was also regularly invited to the World Economic Forum.
Vaira Vike Freiberga is an achiever by all means, being honored with ten doctorates and 27 Orders of Merit.
