The Emirate of Qatar hosted the Asian Games in 2006. The Qatar games exhibited not only the sporting skills of the immensely talented Qatar sports persons, but also the organizational skills of the authorities in charge of the events at the capital city of Doha in Qatar. The excellent organizational finish was the result of many years of meticulous planning and sheer hard work. The event involved substantial investments in cash. More than 15,000 volunteers coordinated with each other to make the Asian games of Qatar a highly successful sporting event in the Arab Middle East.

The success of the Asian games at the Emirate of Qatar have enthused the rest of the Arab countries in the region to follow high sporting standards. The success has influenced the popularity of many games in Qatar. The football team of Qatar won the gold medal at the monumental event. The Qatari football team scored the single winning goal against their Iraqi football opponents in the Al-Saad Football Stadium. The Emirate of Qatar collected nine gold medals at the end of the event.
