Warri

Warri is a city in the southwest of Nigeria. It is located in the Delta State. The city of Warri is one of the oldest riverside towns of Nigeria, and also a foremost port city in the Niger Delta. It is also an important cargo transport spot linking the Niger River and the Atlantic Ocean. The city is connected to the Benin City by a chief highway and it also has an individual airport.

The city of Warri is located on the banks of the lower Niger Delta. It is presently a part of the Delta State, situated approximately midway between the city of Lagos and Port Harcourt. Warri is a very eventful town, apart from being a major seaport in the region.

History of Warri

Warri is set amidst the Yoruba cultural area. The history of the city can be traced back to the 15th century, when Portuguese missionaries came here. Afterwards, it became the trade hub for the Portuguese and Dutch slave traders. The city of Warri evolved as a seaport during the late 1800s. Consequently, it also grew as a core area for the palm oil business.
