Education plays an important role in the development of Lebanon. Most of the Lebanon Universities are private. One of the major Universities of Lebanon is the
Lebanese University. It was established in 1952. The Ministry of Education maintains this university. The two branches are located on the East and the West of Beirut.
There are other branches of
Lebanese University in Al Biqa, Ash Shamal and Al Janub. Various subjects like social science, law, political science, fine arts, engineering, management, literature, education, humanities, journalism, advertising, business administration and agriculture are included within the faculties of the university.
Beirut Arab University holds an important position in Lebanon. It was established in 1960. This university was sponsored by Egypt officially. The Alexandria University in Egypt used control all the affairs. Most of the students were non Lebanese. The medium of teaching was Arabic.
Saint Joseph University also plays a primary role in Lebanon education. Being established in 1875 this university came under the administration of the Society of Jesus. Tripoli, Sidon, Zahlah had branches of this university.
On the other hand
American University of Beirut has great contribution to the higher education of Lebanon. The faculties include arts, sciences, medicine, engineering, agriculture etc. This university provides bachelor as well as master degree.
