Oriente Region

The Oriente Region of the Ecuador refers to the Amazon Basin of Ecuador which forms one of the four geographic divides of Ecuador, the Andes Highlands, the coatal region, the lowlands and the Oriente regions. The Oriente Region or El Oriente is synonymous to the Rain forest region of Ecuadorian Amazon, though a part of it is also found in Cuba. 6 provinces of Ecuador make up the Oriente region, the including Sucumbíos, Orellana, Napo, Pastaza, Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe. The weather condition in the Oriente region is hot and humid throughout the year and it is mostly rainy. The dry season is literally non-existent but it usually the December to April is called the dry season because of the relatively low rains. The diverse flora, fauna and wildlife of the region accounts makes it one of the most coveted Ecuadorian sightseeing spots.

The Inhabitants of Oriente Region: The El Oriente region is home to some of the oldest living tribal inhabitants of the world. Their ways of life are far primitive than standard villages. But their simple way of life and loyalty to tradition has contributed largely to forest conservation. The tribes include Ashuar, Kichwa, Siona,Shuar, Secoya, Huaorani,Cofan, Zaparo and Quijos.

Spectacle bear, bats, marsupials, armadillos, eagles, guams, cock of the rock, many species of reptiles, amphibians, white-tailed deer, moorland deer, moorland fox, puma, deer, tapir, cock of-the-rock, condors and much more constitute the interesting wildlife reserve of El Oriente rain forests.

The Oriente Region covers a very small percentage of the total land area of the earth and in spite of the fact that the soil is not very fertile, the bio-diversity of The amazon rain forests is one of the highest among all rain forests of the World. The Southern Oriente comprises the provinces of Morona Santiago and Zamora Chinchipe.
