The Natural Wonders of the World was a global list created in an effort to inspire people to learn more about conservation and "discover, explore, and engage the natural wonders of the world" around them. Following a period of global online voting, a panel of experts finalized the list of seven natural wonders and went on to create lists for each continent. The seven natural wonders of the world are: Aurora Borealis (a natural display of lights in the northern hemisphere caused when charged particles collide with atoms in higher layers of the atmosphere), Grand Canyon, USA; Paricutin a volcano in Michoacán, Mexico; Victoria Falls on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe; Great Barrier Reef in Australia; Mount Everest on the border of Nepal and Tibet, China; and the Harbor of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, also known as Guanabara Bay.
