Manzanillo, known as the Pearl of the Guacanayabo, is a municipality and city in the Granma Province of Cuba. Manzanillo de Cuba has some of the most unique dark sand beaches and crystal turquoise water in the Caribbean.


Manzanillo city is situated in the Granma province of South Eastern Cuba. This destination in Cuba is a port city on the Guacanayabo Gulf of the Caribbean sea and is close to the delta of the Cauto river.

Manzanillo is a commercial center and produces sugarcane, rice, and tobacco. The city is named after a deadly poisonous plant called Hippomane Mancinelli. Manzanillo was founded in 1784 and was long a popular center for smuggling.

Manzanillo is gifted with abundant beauty in its flora and fauna. And it is evident when one visits the Natural parks or go on hiking the towering mountain peaks. Going on a tour along the Guacanayabo and the Caribbean sea, which follows the route from Manzanillo to San Ramon and Media Luna to Santiago de Cuba, is a revelation in itself.

Museums in Manzanillo

Museo Municipal de Manzanillo and Museo Provincial de Granma are two of the most renowned museums and are often visited.

The nearest beach site is that of the Marea de Portillo, which is known for its dark sandy beaches. It is a part of Sierra Maestra Natural Park and is known for its natural beauty. The beach is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving because of its nearness to the coral reef. The beach is well connected to the other parts of the province of Granma, both by the railways and roadways. Bayamo, the capital city of the province has an airport for domestic flights, and Manzanillo, the closest city to Marea del Portillo has an International airport.
