Uzbekistan Government and Politics

Uzbekistan government and politics have experienced turbulent changes over the years. The government of Uzbekistan is based on the framework of presidential republic. The President of Uzbekistan is both the Head of State and the Head of Government. The new Uzbekistan constitution formulated after independence stressed more on the democratic rights. The president is elected through elections. Several political parties in Uzbekistan take part in the elections. Tashkent was declared (when?) as the capital of Uzbekistan after its independence.

Uzbekistan Flag was officially adopted on November 18, 1991. The flag consists of three horizontal bands of blue, white and green. The different bands are separated by narrow red bands. Blue represents water and sky, white represents peace whereas green represents the fertile land. A crescent moon with 12 stars is placed in the upper left hand corner of the flag. After the country's independence the old Uzbekistan National Anthem was retained but new lyrics were added to it.

The present government of Uzbekistan has focused on strengthening its ties with other countries. Foreign relations of Uzbekistan play an important role in government and politics of Uzbekistan. The country has improved on its foreign relations with neighboring countries like Turkey and Kyrgyzstan and also other CIS countries. The first Uzbekistan embassy was opened in Turkey to ensure its diplomatic presence in Turkey. Government is trying to attract foreign investment in Uzbekistan. It is encouraging joint ventures with foreign companies. The growth of automobile industry in Uzbekistan is a result of this collaboration.

The government has formulated new Uzbekistan laws, which aim in protecting human rights and maintain basic law and order in the country. The national security of Uzbekistan is safeguarded by the military of Uzbekistan. The army, and air defense forces and National Guard are the main branches of the military.
