The newest laws which have become operational within the Commonwealth of Virginia since 2006 state that all the independent cities that are part of the state are not subject to jurisdiction of any separate county. At present there are 40 independent
cities in Virginia which are included within the administration of the Commonwealth. Despite the geographical proximity of some
cities in Virginia, to any county within the state, the jurisdiction of the state will always remain separate from the jurisdiction of the county.
The state laws state that all citizens residing within the independent
cities in Virginia need to vote and elect the city council and the mayor but they are deprived of voting for county supervisors. Although the citizens require to vote to pay the personal property and real estate taxes, they are exempted from paying county taxes. Among the cities in Virginia,
