Saint Lucia Land

Saint Lucia is a beautiful island, which covers an area of about 616 square kilometers. This Caribbean Island situated at 13.53 N and 60.58 W is a tropical paradise between the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean. The coastline of almost 160 km houses attractive beaches that are thronged with tourists throughout the year.

The topography is characterized by fertile valleys, sandy beaches, and volcanic mountainous stretches. Mount Gimie at 950 meters is the highest point of this island.

The tropical island of Saint Lucia experiences tropical climate with sufficient annual rainfall. The temperature remains somewhat uniform throughout the year. Maximum temperature lies within 30ºC, while the minimum temperature does not fall below 24º C. The annual rainfall is approximately 180 cm with the maximum rains occurring between June to October. The dry season extends from November to April.

Saint Lucia People

With a population density of 266 per square kilometer, Saint Lucia has a population of 160,000 people, who are basically English speaking Africans. Most of the St Lucia people are Catholics. Saint Lucia Island farmers grow cocoa, bananas and other fruits and vegetables.

Land and People in Saint Lucia are highly influenced by the Africans and the African culture, as 85% of the total population comprises Africans. However, there is a small percentage of mixed African, British, East Indian, French, and Carib ancestry, and a pure group from European and East Indian decent. People in St Lucia are fluent in English as well as French Creole, which are the important languages of Saint Lucia.
