Christmas is a popular festival of Nicaragua, which is celebrated according to the customs and traditions of old Spain.

formally commences from the 6th of December every year,
but the celebration attains its full glow by 16th December with the public presentation of lodging difficulties faced by virgin Mary and Joseph are demonstrated.
Christmas Celebration in Nicaragua is preceded by shopping of fanciful things like Nativity scenes, candles, toys and food. On the eve of the Christmas day, people religiously take part in the Midnight Mass. According to the rituals of Nicaragua Christmas, every home features a manger scene and prayers are held every year till the eve of Christmas. Prayer is succeeded by singing of carols and refreshment.

Christmas Eve mass is followed by Christmas dinner or feast where the full family gather to take part in Christmas celebration. Fun, frolic, fireworks and dancing are the prime activities that consumes the day.
On January 6 the feast of the Epiphany is enjoyed. On the eve of the feast of Epiphany, children anticipate a visit from Three Kings. The Three Kings represents the Three Wise Men who presented gifts to the baby Jesus. The straw filled shoes of the Children are replaced by candy and toys. The conclusion of holiday season is generally associated with fireworks. Christmas in Nicaragua is celebrated with much funfair.
