A constitutional government characterizes Micronesia Government and Politics. The governments of the various states are more or less autonomous. They have their respective legislature, executive and judicial systems. The government is more or less modeled on the lines of the United States. The local leaders and the governments work in tandem with the national government. The government is divided into three distinct branches. The President of the state is also the head of the executive. The state has a unicameral legislature. The members are elected from the four administrative units. The judicial set up also follows the US system and its main task comprises of executing the civil and criminal laws of the land. Government and politics in Micronesia functions according to the laws laid down in the Constitution. The Constitution was adopted on 10th May in 1979.
