Lebanon War started in the 1970s with the interference of the neighboring countries in the significantly small country. Lebanon was a peaceful and prosperous nation since its independence in 1943. The political situation was stable and the economic condition was developing.
With the decision of the dictator of Syria to amalgamate the two countries, began the problems for the country of Lebanon. The economic and political motives for capturing Lebanon attained significance for Syria. The free market of Lebanon seemed an easy prey for the growth of the economy of Syria.
Hafez Asad, the dictator of Syria, declared the original motive of the country to annex its neighbor, Lebanon, in 1973. The funds and supplies of arms in Lebanon worsened the situation. The Lebanon war broke out in 1976 with the army of Syria attacking the northern parts of the country.
Another problem was the continuous attacks of the Palestinian guerrillas on the people of Lebanon. The Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1978 was another episode in the Lebanon war. The United Nations sent forces to decrease the problems and help the country to regain its foothold. The Israeli attacks of 1982 were also devastating. Ultimately Israel left almost the whole of Lebanon in 1985.
Syria, however, took the advantage of the ongoing conflict between Iraq and Kuwait and completely occupied Lebanon in 1990. The bloodshed of the important figures of Lebanon politics marked a dark phase in the history of the country. It was only after a series of opposition by both Lebanese as well as international powers that Syria left Lebanon in 2005.
